About this site

 The Author - Norman C. Borg

Norman C. BorgI am currently Education Officer at the Department of Technology in Education, Education Division, focusing on the implementation of ICT as a learning and teaching tool in the Primary. I also offer my services as teacher trainer and consultant at the Education Division's ICT Learning Centre. I have been interested in the implementation of ICT in primary classrooms ever since I first started using my personal computer (a humble Commodore 64) way back in 1986. At the time I used to teach Year 5. Presently I lecture students of the Certificate and Diploma in Education Courses run by the Faculty of Education, University of Malta. I also run the course Creating a School Website, as part of the ICT Centre's ICT Evening Course initiative. I have published various articles related to ICT implementation in the Primary, particularly in Education 2000, which used to be jointly published by the Education Division and the Faculty of Education. My paper "ICT: Constructivist elements in Primary Level Software" was published in Constructivist Teaching in Primary School, edited by Suzanne Gatt and Yosanne Vella (Agenda, 2003).

 Rationale and objectives

I have always held the strong belief that computer technology is an essential asset in the classroom, and not just because it increasingly makes part-and-parcel of the everyday life of the younger generation, but because it is simply excellent as a tool for teachers to develop their professional skills, enhance their efficiency and enable them to present more varied learning opportunities to their pupils.

This web site strives to promote these ideas and in particular:

  • To offer some help to those Maltese Primary School Teachers who are still struggling to get to grips with the new technology;
  • To suggest ways and means of implementing the technology across the Maltese Primary Curriculum.

 Brief description

The site has two main highlights: a list of articles which were originally published in various related journals and a software checklist. These are supported by a Frequently Asked Questions page (the size of which will definitely depend on visitors' feedback!) and a list of links to other related sites which will hopefully help teachers to appreciate further the potential of the technology across the teaching profession. The Glossary section is mainly aimed at those of you who are at a loss when it comes to computer and Internet jargon.

 Browser compatibility

I have tested this site on Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape Navigator 7.1, so display should appear properly on these browser versions or higher. But I cannot guarantee a proper display on earlier versions. I have tried to do away with frames for this reason. Nevertheless I have used Style Sheets. These may not be supported by the earlier versions of these browsers. I recommend you go to the related company web sites (their links are in the Home Page) and download the latest browser versions.
